Lake Biwa Rowing Song
Shiga Prefecture encircles the ancient and serene Lake Biwa (biwako). The State of Michigan is surrounded by 4 of the 5 Great Lakes. An initial focus of the Michigan-Shiga sister state relationship was to exchange information, knowledge and ideas on the preservation and development of natural resources (especially our fresh water lakes).
With all that Michigan and Shiga have to offer, the relationship has continued to grow since 1968 to include exchanges involving people, culture, and commerce at the state and city levels.
